After my last post, I started my new compost pile. Here is the internal temperature probe about two weeks into the process. It's about 25 F outside, those are frost crystals on around the outside of the thermometer. Inside, about 130 degrees. When the temp gets into the 140 F range, I'll turn the pile. I've found that once is usually enough to keep things aerobic. This will over winter (covered) with a second pile in the compost bin and will be ready for use in April. Two inches on the beds, sheet mulch for two weeks, plant right around mid April. Rinse and repeat. I'll set up low tunnels over the beds that need the protection and should be ready for market by June 1 with a big supply of fresh vegetables.
