Soil Blocking


I started experimenting with soil blocks for germination/seedlings last year (2018), this year I'm committed to using 90% soil blocks and reducing my single use plastic. A soil blocker is just like it sounds, you make blocks of soil to plant in without use of plastic cell trays. Picture 1 is a 5-block soil blocker. This makes a soil block about 1 inch across 1.5 inches high with a depression in the middle. Just drop the seed in the hole, sprinkle a little mix on top, water in with a water can or mister nozzle, and move on to the next task. The initial watering will last a good week, time enough for a lot of different seed to germinate. I have two blocks, the pictured size (1 inch) and a smaller size (.5 inches), which I haven't had
